Graduation Update!

Dear Friends of Lasting Smiles Uganda,

This past Friday, December 1, 2023 marked the end of our 2023 school year.

Semei emailed me some photos of Friday's graduation and Christmas party and I thought I'd pass them along so you too can be filled with the same joy that I felt as I scrolled through the album. Also worth noting that the celebration meal, in addition to our normal rice and beans, includes meat and a Coke, something our students only receive 3-4 times per year. A special treat indeed!

68 kindergarten students graduated into Primary 1 (P1) / first grade, and our teachers and staff had a great celebration for the students and their families.

We also had 25 Primary (P7) / Seventh Grade students take their national exams in November. They will receive their results in early January. Semei and the team will then begin the task of placing these students into one of our affiliate Secondary Schools, supported by student scholarship from our donors.

My commitment to you, our supporters, is to keep you as close to the progress and activities, in real-time as I can. Below is a clickable link to view all the photos from Friday's celebration.

ENJOY!

Our P7 (Seventh Grade) Graduates Need Your Support

Lasting Smiles Uganda currently educates students from pre-K through P7 (seventh grade). In November of each year our seventh graders take the national exam to earn the chance to attend secondary / high school. We do not have a secondary school program on campus today. Lasting Smiles financially sponsors our graduates to attend four different secondary boarding schools in the region at a cost of $1,020/year.

Research consistently demonstrates the direct correlation between education and economic prosperity. And providing secondary education Scholorship to our graduates is critical to empowering them to break free from the cycle of poverty. Secondary education not only imparts knowledge but also fosters critical thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship—essential skills that fuel progress and contribute to the overall advancement of the community.

Please consider sponsoring one of our 25 secondary students at $85/month. You can do so by clicking below:

WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON

Teacher Dormitories We need additional housing for our teachers. Currently some teachers sleep in the classrooms when school finishes each day. Our vision is to build a sister building to the 10-room teacher dormitory we built in 2022. These additional 10 rooms will be a huge relief to our teachers for the 2024 school year.

Project Cost: $45,000

Teacher rooms are 10' x 10' and often house 2 - 3 teachers
